Frequently Asked Questions about Image to Text (OCR) Converter

What image formats does this OCR tool support?

The tool supports JPEG, PNG, WebP, BMP, and TIFF image formats up to 20MB per file.

Which languages can be extracted from images?

12 languages are supported: English, Vietnamese, Japanese, Korean, Chinese Simplified, Chinese Traditional, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Thai, and Russian.

Is my image uploaded to an external server?

Your image is sent to our secure FastAPI backend server for Tesseract OCR processing. The file is permanently deleted immediately after the text extraction is complete. We do not store, log, or share any uploaded images.

What is image preprocessing and when should I use each mode?

Preprocessing improves OCR accuracy by cleaning up the image before analysis. 'Auto' (recommended) applies grayscale and sharpening for most images. 'Threshold' converts the image to pure black-and-white, which works best for high-contrast scanned documents. 'None' skips preprocessing for already-clean digital images.

Why is the OCR accuracy low for my image?

OCR accuracy depends on image quality. For best results: ensure the text is clearly visible, use high resolution (at least 150 DPI), avoid blurry or skewed images, and select the correct language. Try switching the preprocessing mode — 'Threshold' often works better for printed/scanned documents.

Is this OCR tool free to use?

Yes, JoyTools Image to Text (OCR) Converter is completely free with no registration required and no usage limits.
